The Ministry of Justice (MoJ) recently organized a one-day discussion forum on Community Justice Centers (CJC) in Addis Ababa, bringing together stakeholders from the Federal First Instance Court, Addis Ababa Court, Addis Ababa Justice Bureau, and the Police.
The discussion forum, led by H.E Dr. Ermias Yemanebirhan State Minister, Ministry of Justice, provided a platform for key stakeholders to share insights and perspectives on the establishment and operation of the Community Justice Center in Addis Ketema Subcity, which was successfully launched in October, 2024.
The aim of the forum was to foster collaboration and coordination among the participating organizations, with a focus on enhancing the effectiveness of the Community Justice Center model. This innovative approach aims to address the immediate justice needs of the community, ensuring that justice is accessible, efficient, and fair.
During the event, various topics were discussed, including the roles and responsibilities of the participating organizations, the importance of community engagement in the justice process, and the potential expansion of the Community Justice Center initiative to other subcities and regions in Ethiopia.
The Ministry of Justice highlighted the significance of the Community Justice Center in providing timely and effective resolution of disputes, promoting alternative dispute resolution methods, and strengthening community trust in the justice system. The attendees acknowledged the positive impact of the Addis Ketema Subcity CJC since its launch in October and expressed their commitment to further support and develop similar centers in other areas.
The discussion forum concluded with a call for continued collaboration and joint efforts in advancing the Community Justice Center model, emphasizing the need to enhance the capacity and resources of the centers to ensure their sustainability and widespread implementation.
The Ministry of Justice continues its commitment to promoting accessible and efficient justice for all citizens of Ethiopia, and the successful convening of this forum further strengthens its efforts towards this objective.
