A Technical Committee comprising 22 members from government institutions, the Ethiopian Human Rights Commission, civil society organizations, trade unions and employers’ confederations, and Addis Ababa University’s Human Rights Centre has been formed and put to work. The committee is established to provide expert contributions in developing the national action plan on business and human rights and monitoring its implementation at its approval.
The committee held its first meeting on July 31, 2016, on the discussion forum organized by the Ministry of Justice, which chairs the committee and the Danish Institute for Human Rights.
In the discussion, the United Nations Guiding Principles on BHR, business, and human rights in Ethiopia, and the purpose and mission of the technical committee of BHR in Ethiopia were presented and discussed.
On May 8, 2016, at the Hilton Hotel in Addis Ababa, it is to be remembered that the development of the national action plan on business and human rights officially began at a launching ceremony held in the presence of higher officials of governmental and non-governmental organizations.
