The MoU aims to uphold the rule of law, promote peace, prevent and respond to gender-based violence (GBV) and violence against children (VAC), protect human rights, and empower communities’ justice institutions through collaborative efforts in improving the justice system.
H.E. Dr. Ermias Y/birhan state minister, Ministry of Justice emphasized the importance of focusing on the broader community, particularly vulnerable groups, during the meeting. The goal is to strengthen traditional justice centers to enforce laws protecting children, women, and people with disabilities, while also promoting legal literacy within the community.
Ms. Karmen Till, Director for World Vision Ethiopia also expressed that her organization views this as a positive step, emphasizing the importance of building community centered justice and addressing the root causes of gender-based violence and violence against children. She highlighted their focus on strengthening community-based justice and protecting against violence to ensure children in Ethiopia can experience life in its fullness and thanked the ministry for allowing them to pursue this important work through this project.
The MoU was signed by State Minister H.E. Dr. Ermias Y/birhan on behalf of the Ministry of Justice and Ms. Karme Till on behalf of World Vision Ethiopia. It has been stated that the MoU will remain in effect for the next two years.
