WHEREAS, strong economy is the major objective of the Government of Ethiopia and to this effect trade and transport are inextricably linked Transport is a key sector for international trade, for regional integration and for ensuring a balanced national development;
WHEREAS, cost related to transit transport of import and export goods shore handling, storage, procedures in port and customs clearance and other related time-consuming documentation processes are costly for our country. Recognizing that international multimodal transport is one means of facilitating efficient and cost-effective transit logistic service of our country’s international trade;
NOW, THEREFORE, in accordance with Article 55 (1) of the constitution of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, it is hereby proclaimed as follows:
