WHEREAS, it is important to acknowledge persons and other organs who have done outstanding works in the different sectors so as to encourage a society to follow their leads; growing of inventions and bring inclusive and consistent development;

WHEREAS, it is an acceptable task to honor and acknowledge persons, groups and organizations who have done an outstanding and concrete works for the development of the country in political, diplomacy, economic and social sectors; as well as in Researches, Education, Science and Technology, Medicine, Art, Literature, Culture, Environmental Protection and other similar sectors;

WHEREAS, it is necessary to establish a legal system which generally governs awarding of national Medal, Nishan and Prizes and that also implements article 71(5) and 74(10) of the constitution which deal about Nishan and awards;

NOW THEREFORE, in accordance with Article 55(1) of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia constitution it is hereby proclaimed as follows.
