Dr. Gedion Timothewos served as the Minister of Justice of Ethiopia from October 6, 2021, to October 18, 2024. He is a distinguished legal scholar and practitioner with extensive expertise in constitutional law, human rights, and legal reform.
Before his tenure as Minister of Justice, Dr. Gedion held the position of Attorney General of Ethiopia, where he played a key role in legal modernization efforts and justice sector reforms. He has also worked as a legal advisor, contributing to legislative reforms and policy development to enhance the rule of law in Ethiopia.
Dr. Gedion holds a Doctorate in Law (PhD) and has a strong academic background in constitutional and international law. Throughout his tenure, he focused on advancing judicial independence, ensuring access to justice, and overseeing legislative initiatives to align Ethiopia’s legal framework with international standards.
During his service, the Ministry of Justice actively led initiatives on transitional justice, human rights protection, and institutional reforms.
