WHEREAS, the Ethiopian Government is party to the principal International Human Rights Instruments;

WHEREAS, the Ethiopian Government has consistently expressed its support for regional and international efforts to achieve normative standards for basic human rights;

WHEREAS, the House of Peoples’ Representatives of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia has accepted accession to the African Charter on Human and Peoples’ Rights at its session held on the 2nd day of June, 1998;

NOW, THEREFORE, in accordance with Article 55 sub Articles (1) and (12) of the Constitution of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, it is hereby proclaimed as follows:
