Tigist Mehabie has been leading the Department of Criminal Procedure and Evidence Law implementation office since February 2020. She spearheaded a significant effort to overhaul the Criminal Procedure Code, which had remained unchanged since 1960. In recent years, she oversaw the finalization of the drafting process and standing out as the only woman entrusted with the responsibility of drafting the new Criminal Procedure and Evidence Law.
Prior to her current role, Tigist served as a prosecutor for tax and customs cases across all federal courts. She conducted comprehensive reviews of existing legal frameworks to ensure compliance with international standards and demonstrated exceptional attention to detail in drafting legislation.
With over 15 years of experience in the legal field, she is dedicated to designing, implementing, and leading nationwide programs and initiatives aimed at addressing critical human rights violations and gaps in Ethiopia’s criminal justice system.
