WHEREAS, it is provided for under sub article 1 of Article 28 of the Electoral Law of Ethiopia Amendment Proclamation No. 532/2007 (as amended), general election shall be conducted every five years;

WHEREAS, it is stipulated under Article 7 of the Dire Dawa Administration Charter Proclamation No. 416/1996 (as amended), election for the Council at all levels of the City Government shall be conducted in accordance with the electoral law of the country;

WHEREAS, it is found important to amend the law, unless the council of Dire Dawa city administration council is reelected or an amendment of the law is made, the Council shall not have the power to discharge its duty as the term of Office of the Council expires on July 7 /2018;

WHEREAS, it is found important to retain the existing Council and the executive organs to discharge its duties until election is conducted

WHEREAS, it is found important to incorporate a provision which allows appointment of competent Deputy Mayor either from the members of the Council or none members of the Council;

NOW THEREFORE, in accordance with Article 55 (1) of the Constitution of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, it is hereby proclaimed as follows:
