WHEREAS, Ethiopia had, on 15 of October 1994, signed at paris the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification in those Countries Experiencing Serious Drught and/or Desertification, particulary in Africa.

WHEREAS, it is stipulated in the Convention that the Convention enters into force on the ninetieth day after the date of deposit of the fiftieth instrument of ratification or otherwise;

WHEREAS, the House of Peoples’ Representatives of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia has ratified said Convention at its session held on the 24thday of June, 1997;

NOW, THEREFORE, in accordance with Article 55 sub- Articles (1) and (12) of the Constition, of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia it is hereby proclaimed as follows:
