The Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia and the Federative Republic of Brazil here in after jointly referred to as “the Parties” and separately as “the Party”:

Desirous of further developing mutual cooperation in the field of criminal justice;

Believing that such cooperation should further the ends of justice and the social resettlement of sentenced persons;

Considering the opportunity for foreigners who are deprived of their liberty as a result of a criminal offence to serve their sentences within their own society;

Convinced that the resettlement of persons convicted abroad should be promoted by facilitating their return to their country of nationality residence or with which they maintain a personal bond so that they serve their sentence at the earliest possible stage;

Committing to afford the widest measure of cooperation for carrying out the purposes of this Treaty;
